Evaluations for Insurance Claims

When you need an accurate, honest opinion about the condition of a chimney, fireplace, or heating appliance after damage has occurred we are here to help.  Our reputation is based on a long history of giving complete, accurate evaluations of damages and the most cost-effective methods of repair.  And since we have forensic training, we can offer a more complete report than other chimney inspection companies.

Description of Inspection Levels

We follow the NFPA 211 Standards for inspections

Level I is a visual inspection of readily accessible areas of the chimney structure and flue and basic appliance installation and connection. There must be a lack of obstruction or combustible deposits in the flue. Included with all chimney cleanings and for furnace flues that are next to a fireplace flue.  Only for pre-fabricated chimneys and masonry chimneys that a chim-scan camera will not fit into.  NOT for insurance evaluations.

**Level II includes Level I evaluation Plus an internal camera inspection to check for internal and external damages to the chimney structure, proper clearances from combustibles in accessible locations, proper construction, and condition of accessible portions of the chimney structure and all enclosed flues, all accessible portions the chimney exterior and interior, including areas within accessible attics, crawl spaces, and basements.  Includes inspection by video camera scanning. THIS is the level of inspection you want for a normal insurance claim for damages by chimney fire. Damages due to explosion or lightning strike may require a Level III evaluation.

This level of inspection is required by NFPA 211 Standards and the International Residential Code after any damage has occurred and prior to relining a chimney as of the year 2000.

Note:
We must clean a chimney if there is an accumulation of creosote on the flue or chamber walls in order to properly view the interior flue. An extra charge will apply.

Level III includes Level II inspection, Plus proper construction and condition of concealed portions of the chimney structure and flues (this requires demolition or removal of portions of the building where necessary). This type of inspection is used for cause and origin fire investigations or when a chimney has known damages such as a chimney fire or lightning strike. The customer must specifically request this type of inspection in order for us to complete it.
