HearthMasters, Inc.,Padgitt Chimney & Fireplace and Wood-Fired Magazinesponsored a Halloween décor contest in Independence, Missouri in 2016. Three categories include best house exterior Halloween décor, best Jack-O-Lanterns in exterior decor, and best Halloween fireplace décor.
Each household may enter one time in each of the three categories.

By submitting the entry below you agree that the sponsors may use photos of your house or submitted photos of your fireplace on this website and in any publication, including submissions to newspapers or magazines. Contestants must enter exterior entries by Midnight on October 25, 2016.
Fireplace photos and entries must be submitted by Midnight on October 25. The location of the decor must be inside the city limits of Independence, Missouri.
Judges are owners and employees of HearthMasters, Inc. and other residents of Independence including artists and designers. Judges will review home exteriors from October 25 – October 28. All judging of exterior houses will be done after dark. Judging of fireplace decor will be done via photos submitted by October 25. Judges and their families are not allowed to enter the contest. The winners will be announced on October 30 and submitted to media. Entries will be shown on the website.
The winner of the exterior home décor category will receive $100 in cash and a choice of a fireplace screen or fireplace tool set. The winner of the Jack-O-Lantern category will receive $100 in cash and a choice of a multi-candle holder or fireplace screen. The winner of the best fireplace décor category will receive $100 in cash and a free chimney sweeping/inspection valued at $249. All winners receive a framed certificate.
Best Exterior Halloween Décor: Decorate your home using lights and props to create the best-looking Halloween house in Independence! Keep in mind that a cohesive theme will look better than a big mix of colors and un-related items. All decor should be visible from the street. Keep your lights on after dark from October 21 on because you won't know when judges will stop by.
Best Jack-O-Lanterns in Exterior Decor: Get creative and carve or paint your Jack-O-Lanterns out of pumpkins or other gourds and light up the inside so they look awesome after dark. Be sure to add some extra lighting so judges can see the pumpkins, especially the painted ones. Keep your lights on after dark from October 21 on because you won't know when judges will stop by.
Best Fireplace Décor: Use your imagination to create spectacular decor on and around your fireplace, whether it is indoors or out. Faux fireplaces are acceptible. Photos must be submitted by October 25. High resolution photos are required (at least 300 dpi). We contact the winning entry to make arrangements for a judge to see the decor in person.
