ADDITIONAL BIDS FOR RELINING Sometimes insurance companies may want additional bids from other contractors to reline your chimney. Unfortunately, this is not an easy task in the Kansas City area due to the lack of enforcement of licensing and educational requirements in the larger cities, and the lack of licensing requirements altogether in the smaller suburbs. There is a lot of bad work going on out there. Often we have to go back to remove a flue liner and install a new one because something was not right about the installation. Sometimes what we find is criminal. Since we have been in the business since 1982 we have had the chance to see a lot of work by other chimney contractors. Much of it has been inadequate—some of it has put the homeowner at risk of fire or CO poisoning. Don’t take this lightly. Your home could have smoke damage by the wrong size liner —or worse, cause CO backup. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to find a reliable contractor—the job of the insurance adjuster is to find the lowest bid. Therefore, please do your homework before accepting a bid from another contractor. We can recommend only two other companies in the KC area:
