Wood-Fired Indoor Brick Bake Oven

BEFORE

This was an unfinished indoor barbeque that the  homeowners wanted to convert to a fireplace at first, until Gene told them about indoor bake ovens.  The Sullivan's decided to go with the bake oven idea instead.
DURING

Corbeled supports were added to hold the heavy limestone slab, and the interior is started.  Part of the old bricks are removed to make room for insulation and firebrick.
The bake oven interior is constructed with firebrick, and ceramic wool insulation is installed around the oven.
The finished oven with keystone and cast iron door installed.  The interior has enough room to cook a 10" pizza or hold a small roasting pan.

Note that the bricks around the oven are mirror images of the bricks beside them.

Note: the brick has just been acid washed and the mortar is still wet.  When dry, the mortar color will match the other mortar.
